Re: The Dark Lords of Nerima, Chapter Twenty-One [R/SM cross]

There were, of course, more right behind them. Soap dodged and twisted, dancing left and right while striking out with blinding speed. Off in the distance she could hear the screams and occasional explosion of Happousai's own chaotic path through the monsters, only adding to the mayhem. Even so, th...

Re: The Dark Lords of Nerima, Chapter Twenty-One [R/SM cross]

If I'm describing the results of two opponents that are multiple orders of magnitude more deadly than the youma suddenly appearing in the middle of them without warning and slaughtering a path through them, I wouldn't expect their immediate reaction to be "Oh! How can I coordinate with my fell...

Re: NGE "And if That Don't Work" Chapter 9 "New"

Overall, interesting; Kiku's having self-doubts is, as Katarina noticed, healthy and normal... if unpleasant. The Ayanamis not having them significantly is disturbing, particularly Shinju. "Looking back, Katrina made sure the other pilots were well downrange of Kiko, which at the moment was bef...

Re: The First Contact Curbstomp [Mass Effect - X-com]

Hah! While I very much like the premise, and the content suits the title, it's... flat. Without tossing the Reapers in, there's nothing really to hold interest. But, with the crossover, there's plenty that should be able to hold interest. You touched on the tech differences - flying suits vs. kineti...

Re: Return ch26

Quick comment: anything that disables Minako-container's ability to move under power effectively traps Usagi... such as EMP or the magical equivalent, disenchantment, removing or blocking or draining Minako's (magical) power supply or the control thereof, or any back-door shutdown Ami included that ...

Re: Return ch26

Again, I have limited time (though I now have a 2007 copy of Jane's Strategic Weapon Systems, and a new Ethernet jack in the living room, which should work once I crawl up into the attic). Regarding v3f, which I've only skimmed a few sections of: As others have said, the scared young-seeming brood m...

Re: The Emperor's Circus [Star Wars AU Fanfiction]

To be fair, that's not such a blunder as you would think. First off, while transports are not warships, that doesn't mean they are unarmed. Just because they lack the firepower to take on a Star Destroyer doesn't mean they can't swat an unarmored single-seat fighter that annoys them. Now, as for th...

Re: The Emperor's Circus [Star Wars AU Fanfiction]

I think you can call the Battle of Hoth the battle of Plot Armour. Not necessarily; we can also use it to show that the Imperial forces have a vast gulf between the highly competent and the highly incompetent. This make sense in a system where political patronage and corruption is common. Pale Wolf...

Re: The Emperor's Circus [Star Wars AU Fanfiction]

To be fair, I generally presume the lack of close air support (as well as the lack of 'just have the shuttles drop your troops right on the base') was because the theatre shield prevented it, and for whatever reason of physics, only ground vehicles can pass under it (maybe it screws with repulsorli...

Re: The Emperor's Circus [Star Wars AU Fanfiction]

Ahh... and in the Empire Strikes Back part 3, at about 3:14, we also see the #1 indication of the true range of force choke, when Darth Vader force choked Admiral Ozzel without being anywhere near him. Beware the Holonet, beware video conferencing, for Darth Vader can absolutely kill you through it....

Re: The Emperor's Circus [Star Wars AU Fanfiction]

I... should specify that this is based on RL physics largely, so only very rare asteroid fields (like Hoth, which was actually in the process of getting bombarded by meteors, presumably there was some recent violent event) are any kind of hazard to navigation - the chances of actually running into ...

Re: The Emperor's Circus [Star Wars AU Fanfiction]

The first nitpick: '"She blinked, thrown by the sudden change in topic. "It is strange. And dangerous. I am transferring you off combat duties."' - _what_ is dangerous and strange? I only skimmed the Luke part, but went back and did a search for Jaeger and Vader, and didn't see any re...

As a note on my total length limits, I personally like epics and series, and since I don't really like most oneshots or very short stories, I don't want to see them. Also, that hides from view most of the quickly started and quickly abandoned fics. As other have said, I ignore my rules for some auth...

As with others, I start off with basic filters - Length > 10,000, if there's less than 2k words per chapter I very rarely bother, and mistakes in the synopsis are punishable by death... or my ignoring said fic. There are a very few stories that I find worth reading that violate these rules; I'm will...

A few comments: 1) Another way to get your data off the drive, and the way I prefer, is to "Ghost" or "image" your drive. Norton Ghost used to be preferred, and it's called "ghosting" just like "Kleenex" can be of any brand now, though these days I use Acronis...
